Who is the owner of the collected data?

Which data do we collect?
Our web servers automatically log every visit in a temporary log file. User-specific data (e.g. the IP address of the requesting computer, identification data of the used browser, the operating system of the requesting computer, the volume of data transferred, the name of the Internet service provider, the date and time of access) and technical data (e.g. the name and URL of the referring website if the website was accessed via a link and, additionally, the search term if it was accessed via a search engine) are logged and analysed on an anonymous basis. First and foremost, this data is required to enable the use of our content (connection set-up) and is also used for system-related purposes, including technical administration and system security.
We do not use your data for any other purposes, unless you have also provided your express consent to additional data processing when using certain services.
Additional data processing
In order to use some of our online services, you must first register for SwissID with personal data and approve the use of this data. These services are then used in accordance with a contractual agreement and the associated Conditions of Participation or General Terms or Conditions (GTC). In addition, we only process personal data if you send it to us (e.g. by completing an online form or sending us a message via one of our contact forms).
In such cases, we will only ask you to provide the personal data that we require to perform the offered services. The information you provide us with is recorded in our IT systems.
How do we use your data?
Collecting data helps us to develop and improve our digital presence and to optimise our range of services. We use the collected data for the following purposes:
- To enable you to use our digital presence (establishment of a connection).
- For the internal management of the website (e.g. technical administration and the maintenance of system security).
- To optimise user-friendliness, we collect statistics about user behaviour on our websites. This data is analysed on an anonymous basis.
- To provide the login function, other online services and the contractually-compliant processing of these services.
- To tailor our website to specific target groups (with targeted content or information on the website that may be of interest to you).

What is a cookie?
A cookie is a text file with short data sequences (a sequence of letters and numbers) that by itself cannot perform any operations. This text file is transferred to your browser by the web server when you visit a website. The cookie is stored on your local computer. There are two different types of cookies: temporary cookies and permanent cookies.
We use both temporary cookies, which are automatically deleted from your mobile end device or computer at the end of the browser session, and permanent cookies, which remain on your computer or mobile end device for up to ten years after the browser session. How safe is it to enable cookies?

We use so-called re-targeting or re-marketing methods on our websites. These are online marketing tools. If you now visit other third-party websites, you will be shown recommendations and information with targeted pop-up adverts. Only anonymised data is sent to third parties and personal identification is not possible.

Will we disclose your data to anyone else?
Should SwissSign call on third parties for the provision of services, it shall be authorised to make the required data available to them for this purpose. These third parties are subject to the same obligations with regard to data protection as SwissSign itself. Apart from this, personal data is not disclosed to third parties or otherwise transmitted without your express consent. We retain your information for no longer than necessary and treat it as confidential. This excludes the transmission of personal data to public institutions and authorities as well as to private individuals with a right thereto based on statutory regulations, court orders or official orders as well as its transfer to authorities for the purpose of taking legal action or for law enforcement purposes should our legally protected rights be challenged.

Amendment, blocking and deletion/withdrawal of consent

If the deletion of such data is not permitted for statutory or contractual reasons or under tax law, in particular with a view to statutory retention periods, the data will be blocked instead of deleted.
How secure is your data?
The data we collect and save is handled confidentially and protected against loss and manipulation as well as against unauthorised access by third parties using appropriate technical and organisational precautions.
The SwissID information exchanged between your hardware (end devices and browser) and us is encrypted. We do not accept liability for any unauthorised access or the loss of personal data that is beyond our control.

Individuals who access information on this website, in their SwissID account, when using the SwissID app or when using services offered online accept the following conditions. The aforementioned offers are hereinafter referred to as the “digital presence”.

E-mails and forms sent via the Internet are neither confidential nor secure and can be viewed and modified by third parties. SwissSign shall not be liable for damages arising from messages sent to you via unencrypted e-mail or other messages sent electronically (SMS, etc.).
Copyright and trademark rights
All contents of the digital presence are protected by copyright (all rights reserved). Downloading or printing out individual pages or parts of the digital presence is, in particular, only permitted provided that this is for private use and not for commercial purposes and provided that neither the copyright notices nor any other legally protected designations are removed.
The full or partial reproduction, transmission (electronically or via other channels), modification or linking of the SwissSign website for public or commercial purposes is forbidden without the granting of prior written approval by SwissSign.
The designations “SwissSign” and “SwissID” as well as other product or service designations (incl. logos) are registered trademarks of SwissSign Group Ltd. No part of the digital presence is designed in such a way that a right to use of these brands in granted.
SwissSign provides no guarantee that the functions of its digital presence will be provided on an uninterrupted or error-free basis, that errors will be rectified or that the digital presence and corresponding server are free of viruses or harmful components.
SwissSign accepts no liability for damages arising as a result of accessing or using items within its digital presence (or as a result of the inability to access or use such items or as a result of viruses, etc.).
Although SwissSign exercises all reasonable diligence to ensure that the information made available via its digital presence is accurate at the time of publication, neither SwissSign nor its contractual partners shall warrant or provide any guarantee as regards the accuracy, reliability or completeness of the information. The information and views distributed via the digital presence may be changed at any time and without prior notice.

Applicable law / place of jurisdiction
To the extent permitted by law, all legal relationships between the users of this digital presence and SwissSign shall be subject to Swiss substantive law. The exclusive place of jurisdiction shall be Zurich.
Phishing and attempted fraud on the Internet
Fraud attempts on the Internet are increasingly targeting any carelessness on the part of users in order to gain access to coveted data. Here, you can find information on what you and SwissSign can do to counter such fraud attempts and where you can report suspicious cases.
What can you do in the case of suspicious messages/telephone calls?
Should you suspect that you have received a fake message (or a suspicious phone call) on behalf of SwissSign and would like to clarify the matter, please do not hesitate to contact our Customer Service.
- SwissSign never asks its customers for personal security elements such as passwords or credit card numbers via e-mail or by phone.
- Don't trust unsolicited e-mails.
- Whenever possible, enter Internet addresses for SwissID login areas manually in your browser’s address bar.
- Compare the sender’s name with the e-mail address and the address that is actually stored. You can do so by hovering the mouse over the e-mail address or, on tablets and smartphones, by holding your finger/touch screen pen on the link without pressing. Immediately delete all e-mails identified as phishing.
- Use the online security check of the Swiss Internet Security Alliance (SISA) to make sure your system is not affected by malware.
- When shopping on the Internet, only use reputable and secure online payment service providers and only provide your credit card details if you completely trust the retailer.
- Use passwords that are as secure as possible with a combination of upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters.
If you have already disclosed data, what can you do?
If you have entered your data on a phishing site, you should immediately change your access or e-mail passwords for SwissID services/online services in your SwissID account.
As access to other portals, such as social networks, auction platforms, other payment systems and your credit card data, is gained via your SwissID login details, protection is assured after changing your access data. If, in addition to SwissID, you also use other registration and login data, this must be changed directly with the respective provider.
Report phishing e-mails
Your help is also needed in the fight against attempted fraud on the Internet. By reporting phishing attempts to MELANI, the Confederation’s Reporting and Analysis Centre for Information Assurance, you can help to protect other Internet users. Your report can be used to remove the alleged phishing site from the Internet more quickly, reducing fraudsters’ chances of success. MELANI operates a special website for this purpose, where phishing sites or phishing e-mails can be reported without comment.
