Regain access to your SwissID account
You have forgotten your password
You can easily reset your password, provided that you have access to the email address associated with your SwissID account. To do so, please:
-
Visit the page to reset the password
-
Follow the instructions
Please note: if you log in to your SwissID account with two-factor authentication, you also need to have access to one or two second factors:
-
if you do not have a verified identity, one second factor will do
-
if you have a verified identity, typically two second factors are required
You have lost a second factor
If you still have access to another second factor, you can use it to log in using SwissID. After logging in to your SwissID account, you can delete existing second factors or add new ones. If you do not have an alternative second factor, use the account recovery code you received during the identity check.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
I no longer have access to the e-mail address associated with my SwissID account, what can I do?
If you no longer have access to the e-mail address associated with your SwissID account, it is currently not possible to recover access to your SwissID account. Unfortunately, it means that you need to create a new SwissID account.
What is an account recovery code and where do I get one?
The account recovery code is a code which you can use to regain access to your SwissID account. For example, if you forgot your password or if you lost your second factor.
You can generate an account recovery code by logging in to your SwissID account via swissid.ch.

If you log into your SwissID account with two-factor authentication and if you don't have access to sufficient second factors, it is currently not possible to recover access to your SwissID account. Unfortunately, it means that you need to create a new SwissID account.
We are working on extending the available recovery options in the near future which, among others, also includes the option to regain access to your SwissID account in case you lost access to your second factor(s).
Why does SwissID impose such stringent requirements for regaining access to my SwissID account?
With SwissID, your personal data is given the best possible protection: It is saved in encrypted form and is protected against access by third parties.
Part of this protection, among other factors, includes preventing unauthorized access to your SwissID account. This not only refers to the process of preventing unauthorized access during the login process, but also to unauthorized access during the recovery process.
For the recovery process, SwissID complies with the relevant security standards which have certain implications on the available options.
