SwissSign selected for EU's Large-Scale Pilot Project to drive adoption of European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet)

SwissSign is participating in the "We Build" Consortium, which has recently been selected by the European Commission for its Large-Scale Pilot, one of the EU’s key initiatives driving the adoption of the European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet).

"We Build" stands for Wallet Ecosystem for Business & Payment Use Cases, Identification, Legal Person Representation, and Data Sharing. With nearly 200 partners across Europe and a total budget of approximately €25 million, a 24-month program, the consortium explores practical applications for organizational digital identity.

The consortium consists of three tracks:

  • Natural persons using a natural person wallet: This track primarily focuses on payment use cases.

  • Natural persons representing a legal person: This track explores the identification and verification processes involved in legal representation.

  • Organizations using a legal person wallet (business wallet): This track is aimed at enabling automated data exchange for better business integration.

SwissSign's role in this Large-Scale Pilot

SwissSign, as the leading Qualified Swiss Trust Service Provider, will contribute to bringing trust into the digital wallet, verifiable credentials, and the EID ecosystem. More specifically SwissSign is involved in two working groups:

  • Wallet for Business, KYC/KYB/KYS/ (Know Your Customer, Your Business, Your Supply) in collaboration with authentic sources and attestation providers, wallet providers, PID (Personal Identification Data)/LPID (Legal Person Identification Data) providers, and QES (Qualified Electronic Signature) providers.

  • General Capabilities: delivering near-production technical capabilities that support secure, scalable, and interoperable solutions for digital identity, trust services, and wallet implementations within the WE BUILD Program.

The Future of Digital Proof

In the near future, proving your role within an organization will be seamless and fully digital. With a digital wallet, you will be able to present a Verifiable Credential confirming your status as the legal representative of an organisation. This will allow you to digitally prove your authority, enabling you to legitimately request services or products on behalf of your organization.

You can for example access a variety of eGov and eBanking online services such as:

  • Submitting a posted worker notification to a foreign government's labor authority

  • Make payments on behalf of a client or entity

  • Apply for business loans or credit lines for a represented entity

  • Approve high-value transactions on behalf of an entity

  • Open, manage, or close business accounts for a client

  • etc.

This process will make interactions more secure, efficient, and trustworthy, through cryptographically verified authentication.

As a recognized QTSP (Qualified Trust Service Provider) with over 20 years of experience, SwissSign is an expert in digital identity solutions, verifiable credentials, organization identification, and qualified trust services such as qualified seals, and eSignatures. SwissSign is the only Trust Service Provider based and operating in Switzerland which is certified for all relevant regulations CA/Browser Forum, Swiss signature and certificate law ZertES and EU ordinance eIDAS.

"Being part of this transformative journey is a privilege and very motivating," says Jean-Marie Vidalenc, Head of Identity and Innovation Services at SwissSign AG. "Collaborating with partners and industry leaders on tangible digital wallet and identity solutions allows us to advance our mission: delivering next-generation qualified trust services.
